NY Jets Linebacker Teams Up with Oceanic to Help Kids
Long Island, NY - The Marvin Jones Charitable Foundation today announced it has received an in-kind contribution from Oceanic of San Leandro, California so the Foundation can continue its work in supporting the Boys & Girls Club of America.
The Marvin Jones Charitable Foundation was established in 2000 by NFL star and NY Jet middle linebacker Marvin Jones. The Foundation works with the Boys and Girls Club to get children involved in a wide variety of activities geared towards developing their sense of self worth, meeting their educational needs and getting them to accept their civic responsibility.
Nestor Palmero vice president of Business Development for Oceanic, a worldwide manufacturer of scuba equipment, said "Obviously we're excited about helping the Foundation achieve its goals, but it's also a great opportunity to become involved and make a difference." Palmero has been involved in the scuba industry since 1977.
In addition to his accomplishments in the dive industry, Palmero has served on the Florida Association of Post Secondary Schools and Colleges' Board of Directors and understands first hand the positive impact a program like this will have on the children. "Bob Hollis, our founder and CEO, recognizes the work been done by Marvin and we are only too happy to help," stated Palmero.
Jones, an avid scuba diver himself, added, "I want to use scuba diving as a way to reach young people. It's a chance for the kids to accomplish something, develop self reliance, to interact socially with others and experience camaraderie." Jones is pursuing a degree in counseling which will enable him to become a certified youth counselor when his playing days are over.
The Marvin Jones Charitable Foundation, a 501(c) 3 non-profit charitable organization, is supported entirely by voluntary assistance from AXA Advisors, Sports Radio 66AM WFAN and Immersed magazine, as well as by other groups and individuals. Visit the Foundation at www.marvinjonesfoundation.com
